Russell Szmulewitz, MD, explains why his section of Prostate Cancer Care at the University of Chicago Medicine is unique.
RUSSELL SZMULEWITZ: I think that there are couple of very unique aspects to the University of Chicago Medicine that really make it a key destination as a tertiary or quaternary care center. One is that we have developed a very robust multi-disciplinary approach to cancer care delivery within the genitourinary cancers, which I'm an expert in. We meet twice weekly with our urologic and radiation oncology colleagues to discuss complex patient and also clinical research that really dovetail together and allow us to deliver really state of the art care. The other piece that I believe really is a major component of what sets us apart is that we have access to and are really key members in therapeutic development. So we have many new therapies that are the next therapies. And for patients who have very complex cases or are in truly need of expert care, we have access to therapies they simply can't get other places.
